a rower's eveningPosted by Rick (Toronto, Canada) on 23 February 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. From a few years ago along the west Toronto lakeshore. The skyline is lower with wider spaces between buildings which allows for the visual competition between cloud and contrail, all of it changing by the minute. Here is where the soft dip of paddles in unison can rekindle imagination's idea of what old lake Ontario used to be for its native peoples.

Thank you for looking and commenting; always a pleasure, Karine. Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United KingdomI know what you mean by that title . . I see evenings like this on the River Thames near my home complete with the rowers . . 23 Feb 2012 9:56am @Ronnie 2¢: That sounds (and in my mind, looks) beautiful, Ronnie. Stephen from Canberra, AustraliaSome exquisite detail, Rick, to compete with the big sky, As well as the boat, I love the silhouette of the bird at the end of one of the jetties. 23 Feb 2012 11:30am @Stephen: I was fond of that big bird, too... they have a knack for adding nice touches to images. Thank you, Stephen. @Farnaz.m: Very kind feedback : thank you! Phil David Morris, 2012 from Saskatoon, New York, CanadaWonderful photo of this great silhouette in the glorious basking of the light show of 23 Feb 2012 1:31pm @Phil David Morris, 2012: The ongoing crisscross of busy air traffic lends that overlay of texture to already expressive skies, and such was the case here. I'm glad you like the shot, and thanks, Phil. klausZ from Kufstein, Austriait´s amazing, i´ve seen so many sun-sets, in original by my own and on different photos from each place round the world. you definitely believe, there´s nothing, you haven´t seen, any color, any shades, with sillhouettes, without them and so forth ..... and again, to see your´s today upload, another new coloring, another cloud formation ... I think, to see sun-sets, never would be boring and you never have to believe, that you´ve seen them all, each sun-set is unique and a fantastic proof, how beautiful this our planet definitely is! 23 Feb 2012 1:41pm @klausZ: You said it very well, klausZ : each day brings its own variables to the displays of land and sky, then when you multiply it by the countless places across this planet... endlessly shifting characteristics of beauty and awe. Here we have a lot of wind and it usually doesn't blow in one predominant direction. I think it does things to the shapes and types of clouds that is affected visually by sunrise and sunset, leaving a wide variety of photographic opportunities. I have a couple of black and white frames for future sharing that were taken on a very humid summer day as strange nuclear-looking clouds began to rise up above the lake. I have only seen them that one time! Joyce from Montana, United StatesA serene feel and "sound" to it. What a unique pleasure to be rowing at that hour. I would just love it. 23 Feb 2012 2:10pm @Joyce: Yes, the sound... gently dipping oars and the distant call of the boss of the boat , the far off wail of a siren, the white noise hum of traffic, waves lapping, gulls... I think that most big city dwellers relish the quieter hours. Thanks for looking and hearing, Joyce. Jason Politte from Conway, AR, United StatesWow, marvelous - this an enchanting shot, Rick. I can hear the paddles breaking the water's surface as this scene plays out before us. 23 Feb 2012 2:25pm @Jason Politte: I love how your comment echoed Joyce's, with that audible factor. Now to stop and 'listen' to the various sounds ... and the silence on this side of the lake. Evening skies offer us so much beauty!
