fresh herbs and jamPosted by Rick (Toronto, Canada) on 2 August 2012 in Documentary & Street. Kensington Market, just off Spadina between Dundas and College. On a corner next to a bevy of fresh herbs and veggies, across the narrow street from dozens of discount stores offering a world of goods. Serious funk. The kind that makes your bone marrow squirm. Sunlight on your face feels no different than the way those hi hats sizzle, kinda loose but firmly in a pocket. It's the bass, though, making you want to juggle eggplants, or ask strangers to dance. Life and Summer no strife no simmer.

@Nicou: Les photographes sont partout! Merci, Nicou. @Othersideblue: Thanks very much! @k@: Ha ha, "Canada man" made me chuckle. 'Twas a bright, oh so bright squint of an afternoon, yeah. I made a little adjustment again and reposted, but it's still what it is ;-) - I was focused on the drummer and then noted the young woman's shift of positioning, so I followed suit and two total strangers have bookended views of the same jam. Funny world, Karine :) @k@: Wheeee... Bib Marlay, whose song "Six Little Birds" never achieved the hit status that it should have... @Mooie: Really funky urban stuff, like something from a Shaft movie with the guitar talking the "chuck-a-wow, chuck-a-whaaa" with wah pedal forked tongue... good stuff. No vocals and none needed. I could almost see the little boxes of herbs growing to the grooves. @Doug: Kind of you to say, Doug; thanks ! If you ever visit my town, please make sure to devote a couple of hours to the vibrant Kensington Market area. Shopping and people watching galore. @Stephen: This is from "Pedestrian Sunday", where the market area is closed to traffic and bipeds take over in style, including a lot of street performance. It really is a great initiative and I wish more neighbourhoods around town would adopt it. Thanks a lot, Stephen. @Tinx: I like that you like it ! @Mhelene: It is a fun place to stroll, shop, loiter, photograph. Lots of colourful buildings and people. Thanks ! @grouser: Break it on DOWN, man... ! @Curly: Lots of good places to buy any kind of proteins, veggies, spices, etcetera, and definitely a camera abundant location on most days let alone Pedestrian Sundays. I'll have to go back before this Summer ends, maybe get a street dance. Cheers, Curly. @Jason Politte: Yeah, Isaac would be right on. Any good baritone like that, maybe Lou Rawls if in the right mood. Definitely not Christopher Cross or Leo Sayer; not for *this* :) (thanks for reading when you look, Jason) @Nigel: Thanks a lot, Nigel. It is quite high key but also reflects the sheer brightness of being there under midday sun. @Martine: La musique est la vie! (pour beaucoup d'entre nous) Merci beaucoup, Martine. @Ainsley: Hello, and thanks for the comment :) - yes, a busy street view as many are, and I liked the duality of two cameras seemingly aimed toward each other. @David: I watched a documentary where various types of music were played for plants. Many of the highest growth rates were found with the test group exposed to loud rock and roll, such as AC/DC ;-) @the rickster: Stylin' comment, rickster. @Slackwater - Don: Thanks, Don. @Florence: One of the corners that weren't jam packed, this being a little out of the central part of that district. Thanks for picking up on the good energy, Florence :-)) @Phil Morris: Sort of a casual eclectic group of city folk, on one corner amongst the thousands of corners, but man this was a funky one! Cheers, Phil. @LauraS: Thanks, Laura. I've photographed my share of people in the streets, so it seems only fair that I get the same treatment from time to time :-) @Ruthiebear: Street scenes can be a lot of fun. I haven't gone out for one of my city walks in a long time, and must set aside a day soon for that. Thanks for the visit and response. @franz: Hi franz, thanks :-) ... been enjoying your images as usual, and think you rock for going back to catch up on previous posts the way you do. @Steven: Thanks! Really? Ha ha... it's only fair, and I can't help but think "what a small world" it is. @Abena: A bright warm day, lots of happy people enjoying streets free of cars, and so much music and smells of food in the air : lots to like ! Thanks for your comment, Abena. @RBL: Glad you like it, and thanks for the nice feedback ! @Baldwin VW: Thanks much ! @Sue-Ann: There is no wrong language :) ~ Strange environment, for music being jammed? For dancing? I guess it varies from person to person. Thanks for looking. @Irene: Ha ha... no telling what or who someone is going to find interesting ! @john4jack: Thanks, Jack. I thought she was photographing these guys jamming, but she seemed to shift her attention to the long haired dude across from her, peering through his Canon. There was zero interaction before or after the capture, or should I say there was no capture after the capture ? @Judy aka L@dybug: Bass player is making funky face eye contact with the guitarist. I think the drummer is checking out the gal with the camera. One woman is buying herbs. I'm ready to compose a shot of the bass player and then see the camera gal shift back there, so I square up for this view instead. Nano seconds of action and impulse, all of it musical. Thanks, Judy ! @Denny Jump Photo: You read and heard the shot well, my friend. Thanks ! @the rickster: Good weather up until about Halloween. Always room for another musician ! @Denny Jump Photo: Who, me? Subversive and innuendo-ish ? *snicker* |
