rum runner's hole

Posted by Rick (Toronto, Canada) on 7 August 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

This is "Smuggler's Cove" in Nova Scotia, just off the Evangeline Trail. During low tide it is possible to walk into the cave, which is big enough to accommodate a small sailing vessel and probably a lot of rum... this is the alleged history of the place, but I was more interested in its rugged texture and omnipresent mist.

Like a whale emerging in an apparition out of the waters - tones are beautiful and the rocks palpable, some fresh air is felt & shared with the light & vaporous middle presence - original & earth-breaking vision.

I totally dig the texture! It almost looks like a painting. And it's very similar to the coastline here with the moody colour pallet.

Beautiful though a tad disturbing that everything is drifting to the right. Just like politics... sigh :) The lone rock has something of a surfacing exotic sea creature about it.

Incredible atmosphere with the mist and iron-like rocks around the cave - I wonder how Johnny Depp would play this role!

The mist emanates from the cave as if giving off a breath in the chill air.

I find those steep banks impressive. The cove has a wonderful history that may well be tree. Fine post.

Oooh, that rugged cliff. And the mist looks like breath. I would be fast to paddle a canoe in there (I've never been in a canoe either). Delicious mystery. Or walk in at low tide, but that has suspense too. Shiver me timbers, matey! Rum smuggling and swash buckling. Love the stories of the sea.

Beautiful formations, angles and textures! I first thought that was a bear in the water.

I love your PoV and the angle of that rocky cliff, but I'm far too claustrophobic to chance running any rum into the cave. ;D
