The Eroded

Posted by Rick (Toronto, Canada) on 7 December 2016 in Landscape & Rural.

Toronto's Scarborough Bluffs, east of downtown and on the shore of lake Ontario, are eroding at a noticeable rate. If you look closely at the tower to the left, you will note it is a popular avian hangout.

Superb photo Rick, I never made it out to the bluffs, but this photo
makes me wish I had. Beautiful !~

@Phil Morris: It is one a several city "escape zones" that I like to visit on an annual basis. Thanks a lot, Phil!

It has the look of a castle . .

@Ronnie 2¢: Yes sir, with a great lake for a moat. Cheers.

@martine Libouton: Merci !

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

An interesting geological shot. From the even vertical walls I would guess the towers are created because they had something more resistant crowning them. The birds are a nice touch :)

@grouser: I believe the grass and tree root systems on top keep some of the erosion in check, but each time I visit and take pictures there is a remarkable difference in the overall appearance. Thanks, g.

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

Superb framing . Birds always like those places !

@Mhelene: Nothing like a lofty perch to make a bird feel good :-) Thanks for the comment.

Irene from San Francisco, United States

At my first glance I thought of a castle. Great shot !

@Irene: I can see why it looks that way. Thanks, Irene.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

A beautiful view captured of these sheer cliffs!! I love the green foliage that stands out nicely in the sunlight. How unfortunate that they are eroding so fast.

@Steven: Thanks for the feedback, Steven. These bluffs are probably several thousands of years old, but in my own relatively recent experience in visiting them, the changes are remarkable.

Ruthiebear from Titusville, NJ, United States

With the birds hanging out it looks like a castle tower! The rugged shapes are interesting to see.
