The Eyes Said "Fries"

A harbour seal at Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria B.C., fixed me with this old soul gaze and the next thing I knew, I was forking over a couple of my french fries.... but not before grabbing this quick portrait.

ha ha . . what a wonderful expression . . and it clearly worked !

@Ronnie 2¢: Refusal was futile !

k@ from Paris, France

What a clever angle, love the way she looks at you/us (and fries ;) Very human eye she has, full of thoughts and distance (a temper, for sure !). Excellent blue mood.

@k@: The eyes seemed very gentle, and also I found it interesting how water on their skin makes it nearly impossible to tell if you are in focus through the viewfinder. Thanks very much, Karine! (also for looking at several older photos during your visit)

Anna Cherer from LA ROCHELLE, France

She seems very friendly ! even if it is interested )) I did not think that they liked something else than fishes ! A beautiful meeting and a very beautiful capture in the corner of the frame !

@Anna Cherer: They prefer small fish treats at this harbour, but I think over time they have grown used to other snacks, and so yes I tossed two french fries into the water and they were promptly gobbled up. Thanks !

omid from mashhad, Iran

Devi from Chennai, India

Cute portrait !! He / she is asking you for some !! Did you oblige ?

16 Nov 2017 10:45am

@Devi: I did; two french fries. I also saw a few people offering small fish which can be purchased by one of many vendors on the wharf. Thanks, Devi.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Great capture of this seal!! I love how its whiskers radiate outward in this shot!

16 Nov 2017 12:44pm

@Steven: It was those fanning whiskers that made me want to frame the shot like this. Thanks, Steven.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Ha ha, he has perfected that look to get treats. Excellent portrait.

16 Nov 2017 3:42pm

@Steve Rice: It's a pretty easy life, getting treats from a harbour compared to seeking food in the open ocean. Thanks!

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

A beautiful image also, with the azure water and his face almost reminds me of a planet, like Earth, drifting in the heavens....I hope they were crinkle cut fries...easir for us old dogs to digest...Nevertheless... Really a col picture her, Rick ;-)
