Here in the last stages of a thousand year existence, stabbing at the sky with ancient wisdom and towering memories of so many seasons as to stagger the imagination. Logging companies came and went, but Douglas the Fir remained on his mountainside to survey a domain not ours, but Earth's.

Reminds me of what Chris Paolini said when he saw me at a fair drawing portraits. Out of one of his dragon adventure books he councils "Keep your sword sharp!" To me he shouted, "Keep your pencil sharp!" He is an artist too. Actually it looks like one of those old rifles with the knife on the end ... reaching for the a last thrust of devotion neverending.
