"Not In Service"

A parking area for Toronto's "red rocket" streetcars, now being replaced gradually by sleeker and slower moving models. There is a certain charm to urban trolley cars, although I must confess that getting stuck behind one during rush hours (this city has horrible traffic issues) does anything but evoke images of rockets or speed, but may certainly have some drivers seeing red.

Yes, I sympathise with the mixed blessings here . . although, properly planned, they can be very successful.

@Ronnie 2¢: To be fair, there are times when these vehicles work wonderfully. I don't believe the city fathers anticipated that Toronto, formerly "Muddy York" and "Hogtown", would boom the way it has. The infrastructure can't keep pace with the population growth and demands of such.

@Martine Libouton: Merci, Martine.

Anna Cherer from LA ROCHELLE, France

A beautiful framing and effect with the wide lens ! steetcars are very useful for the visit of Toronto !

@Anna Cherer: Thank you, Anna. Yes, I agree that the public transit is the best way to get around downtown, or a rented bicycle or on foot. Driving a personal vehicle and paying for parking doesn't make sense.

Pas de soucis de stationnement tout est sur les rails.

One would have hoped they were the future rather than the past. Desire more streetcars and less cars :)
Nice perspective compo

@grouser: Less cars, more bikes and public transit and people willing to walk a few blocks... this is what all our cities require, not to mention Planet Earth. The city and province are doing what they can to keep up with exploding demands. The future will reveal success or failure on that topic. Cheers, mister g.

I like this viewpoint. I also like how the red pops.

15 Oct 2018 12:24pm

@Ruthiebear: Thanks, Ruthie. The new streetcars feature more of the red and look very "science fiction" compared to these trusty lunks. I loved the older old models, from the 50s.

Ralf Kesper from Fröndenberg, Germany

Very interesting photo. Well done!

@Ralf Kesper: Thanks, Ralf.

While in Japan, I rode the streetcars quite often. They are a great way to move people in a city. A fine shot of these at rest.
