Gone for Winter

Rick (Toronto, Canada) on 18 December 2018 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Monarch butterflies massing prior to their migration south, far from the cold and snow of Ontario. I await the sight of them renewed in 2019.

They are beautiful and may be gone for good soon. I read their populations have declined by 80%, if I recall correctly, in the past 20 years or so. I used to see them every summer when I was a kid. They would lay their eggs on milkweeds.
