Excellent capture of the Orca. Sad to hear that Oregon has decided to cull Sea Lions, that are a food source for the migrating Orca.

@Shaun: Sad indeed. Doesn't anyone bother to think about long term repercussions anymore?

Very nice !!!

You are so lucky to get this. I had my eyes peeled on our trip to Cortez but not a whisper. Excellent

24 Jan 2019 12:31pm

@grouser: Tamara and I along with my brother and sister-in-law, paid to go on a "sensitive" whale watch and they were true to their word... we didn't intrude upon the pods and as a result were treated to quite a display. I only wished for a 300mm lens a few times ;)

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Excellent timing to capture this orca coming out of the water! It makes for a goosebump experience. :-)

24 Jan 2019 1:34pm

@Steven: We saw a few jumps out of the water, some romping in the pod, and lots of big fins. It was awesome.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

What an excellent catch! I hope the salmon populations can support these magnificent whales.

24 Jan 2019 2:37pm

@Steve Rice: I believe the Orca population around Vancouver Island and up toward Alaska is still holding. Thanks, Steve.

Marjolein from Enkhuizen, Netherlands

Ohh, this is so wonderful! Great captured. I have to admit that I am a little jealous of you.

24 Jan 2019 2:51pm

@Marjolein: Glad you like it. Maybe it will help if I tell you that we were on the water for hours, soaked and cold? Ha ha.

Ruthiebear from Titusville, NJ, United States

I LOVE THIS!!!! what a special moment to experience! My son from a toddler haS BEEN FASCINATED WITH WHALES. AS AN ADULT HE continues. So whales always bring a tender feeling for me.
